Environmental Impact Statement
NUREG-1437, “Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants Regarding Crystal River Unit 3 Nuclear Generating Plant (NUREG-1437, Supplement 44) Draft Report for Comment,” was published in May 2011. This supplement documents the NRC staff’s review of the environmental issues at Crystal River Unit 3 Nuclear Generating Plant regarding the Florida Power Corporation application for license renewal of that facility. The supplement was prepared in accordance with 10 CFR 51.71. This supplemental environmental impact statement includes the NRC staff’s analysis that considers and weighs the environmental effects of the proposed action (license renewal), the environmental impacts of alternatives to the proposed action, and potential mitigative measures for reducing or avoiding adverse impacts. It also includes the NRC staff’s preliminary recommendation regarding the proposed action.
Since the licensee has withdrawn its application, all activities associated with NUREG-1437, Supplement 44, have ceased.
Safety Evaluation Report
The NRC staff reviewed the Crystal River Unit 3 Nuclear Generating Plant license renewal application for compliance with the requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 54, "Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants," and prepared this report to document its preliminary findings. The document was issued on December 14, 2010, as "Safety Evaluation Report with Open Items Related to the License Renewal of Crystal River Unit 3 Nuclear Generating Plant."
Since the licensee has withdrawn its application, all activities associated with this Safety Evaluation Report have ceased.
Public Involvement
The public is encouraged to participate in the reactor license renewal process through public meetings, and public comment periods on rules, renewal guidance, and other documents. The Reactor License Renewal Public Involvement page provides general information to help the public participate.
