Fire Protection

Fire protection maintains safety and reduces hazards associated with fires. Fire protection studies the behavior, suppression, and investigation of fire and related emergencies, as well as the research and development, production, testing, and application of systems to detect and prevent fires and mitigate their consequences.

Consistent with the mission of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), the following are the major areas in which the NRC is enhancing safety through fire protection.
