The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is committed to ensuring that our websites and digital services are accessible to individuals with disabilities, including members of the public and federal employees. The policy statement may be found at Section 508 Accessibility Policy Statement.
Accessibility of Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (29 U.S.C. 794d), requires federal agencies, as they procure, develop, maintain, or use electronic and information technology (also known as ICT), to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access and use information and data comparably with how individuals without disabilities can access and use it, unless this would impose an undue burden on the agency. Examples of ICT include websites, software, and electronic content.
The NRC is committed to meeting or exceeding the Standards for Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (36 CFR 1194.1), which are the technical requirements and criteria that measure how well we conform with the law. The standards incorporate the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, Level A and Level AA Success Criteria and Conformance Requirements. However, the NRC seeks to apply the most current WCAG version (currently 2.2), where possible.

How to File a Section 508 Complaint
The NRC’s Office of Small Business and Civil Rights (SBCR) is responsible for processing and investigating complaints arising under Section 508. Individuals with disabilities (applicants for employment, any Federal employees, and members of the public) may file an administrative complaint with SBCR requesting that existing ICT, such as an NRC-branded website or a document that does not comply with the Standards for Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, be reviewed and brought into compliance. Such complaints shall be filed with SBCR on the alleged act of discrimination and will be processed in accordance with the NRC’s implementing regulations for Section 501 and/or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Reasonable Accommodations
The NRC’s policy is to fully comply with the reasonable accommodations requirements of Section 501 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, and the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008 (ADA) by providing reasonable accommodations to qualified employees or applicants for employment with disabilities unless doing so would cause undue hardship to the agency.

Telecommunications Relay Services
Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS) allow persons who are deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, or have speech disabilities to communicate by telephone in a manner that is functionally equivalent to telephone services used by persons without such disabilities.
