Safety Evaluation Report

The NRC staff reviewed the Byron Station, Units 1 and 2, and Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2, license renewal application for compliance with the requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 54, "Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants," and prepared this report to document its preliminary findings. The document was issued on October 30, 2014, as "Safety Evaluation Report with Open Items Related to the License Renewal of Byron Station, Units 1 and 2, and Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2."

Subsequently, on July 6, 2015, the staff issued the document "Safety Evaluation Report Related to the License Renewal of Byron Station, Units 1 and 2, and Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2."

In December 2015, the staff published the final "Safety Evaluation Report Related to the License Renewal of Byron Station, Units 1 and 2, and Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2" as NUREG-2190.

Environmental Impact Statements

NUREG-1437, "Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants Regarding Byron Station, Units 1 and 2 (NUREG-1437, Supplement 54) Final Report," was published in July 2015. This supplement documents the NRC staff's review of the environmental issues at Byron Station, Units 1 and 2 regarding the Exelon Generation Company, LLC application for license renewal of that facility. The supplement was prepared in accordance with 10 CFR 51.71. This supplemental environmental impact statement includes the NRC staff's analysis that considers and weighs the environmental effects of the proposed action (license renewal) and the environmental impacts of alternatives to the proposed action. It also includes the NRC staff's recommendation regarding the proposed action.
