Safety Evaluation
The NRC staff reviewed the St. Lucie Plant, Units 1 and 2, subsequent license renewal application for compliance with the requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 54, "Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants" and prepared a safety evaluation to document its findings. The "Safety Evaluation Related to the SLRA of St. Lucie Plant, Units 1 and 2," was issued on July 21, 2023. Revision 1 "St. Lucie SLRA SER Rev 1" was issued on September 1, 2023.
Environmental Review
Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants, Supplement 11, Second Renewal, Regarding Subsequent License Renewal for St. Lucie Plant, Units 1 and 2, Draft Report for Comment, was published December 2025. The NRC prepared this supplemental environmental impact statement in response to the application submitted by Florida Power & Light Company to subsequently renew the renewed facility operating licenses for St. Lucie Plant, Units 1 and 2, for an additional 20 years. The supplemental environmental impact statement, in combination with the Commission’s NUREG-1437, Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants, evaluates the environmental impacts of the proposed action and includes an analysis of any negative environmental impacts of not implementing the proposed action. The NRC staff’s preliminary recommendation is that the adverse environmental impacts of subsequent license renewal for St. Lucie Plant, Units 1 and 2, are not so great that preserving the option of subsequent license renewal for energy-planning decision makers would be unreasonable.
Public Involvement
The public is encouraged to participate in the reactor license renewal process through public meetings, and public comment periods on rules, renewal guidance, and other documents. The Reactor License Renewal Public Involvement page provides general information to help the public participate.![]()
