Safety Evaluation

The NRC staff reviewed the St. Lucie Plant, Units 1 and 2, subsequent license renewal application for compliance with the requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 54, "Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants" and prepared a safety evaluation to document its findings. The "Safety Evaluation Related to the SLRA of St. Lucie Plant, Units 1 and 2," was issued on July 21, 2023. Revision 1 "St. Lucie SLRA SER Rev 1" was issued on September 1, 2023.

Environmental Review

Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants, Supplement 11, Second Renewal, Regarding Subsequent License Renewal for St. Lucie Plant, Units 1 and 2, Final Report, was made publicly available on March 13, 2026. The final supplemental environmental impact statement documents the NRC staff’s review of the environmental impacts of subsequent license renewal for St. Lucie Plant, Units 1 and 2. The final supplemental environmental impact statement was prepared in accordance with 10 CFR Part 51 and documents the NRC staff’s analysis that considers and weighs the environmental effects of the proposed action (subsequent license renewal) and the environmental impacts of alternatives to the proposed action. It also includes the NRC staff’s recommendation regarding the proposed action: The NRC staff’s recommendation is that the adverse environmental impacts of subsequent license renewal for St. Lucie are not so great that preserving the option of subsequent license renewal for energy-planning decision-makers would be unreasonable.

Public Involvement

The public is encouraged to participate in the reactor license renewal process through public meetings, and public comment periods on rules, renewal guidance, and other documents.  The Reactor License Renewal Public Involvement page provides general information to help the public participate.
