T8 Making Effective Decisions in Using Defense in Depth, Safety Margins, and Risk!
Panel members will talk about the effective application of risk-informed decisionmaking (RIDM), including robust discussions of practical examples, best practices/lessons learned, successes, and challenges on how considerations of risk have helped keep our focus on safety. The session will cover misconceptions about the role of risk considerations in defense in depth and how we integrate the use of RIDM with deterministic reviews for effective decisionmaking. Additionally, the NRC and external stakeholders will highlight both the positive benefits and potential pitfalls of using RIDM along with probabilistic risk assessment applications.
