Routine NMP Updates

The National Materials Program (NMP) Champions routinely provide a status on NMP activities at the monthly U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)/Organization of Agreement States (OAS)/Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors (CRCPD) call held the third Thursday of the month.

The NMP Champions gave NMP presentations at the following meetings:

  • Health Physics Society Midyear Meeting - January 29, 2020
  • Regional State Agreements Officers Counterpart Meeting - February 26, 2020
  • Commission Briefing on the Strategic Programmatic Overview of the Decommissioning and Low-Level Waste and Nuclear Materials Users Business Lines - November 5, 2020. During the briefing, a video presentation on National Materials Program - A 21st Century Partnership was presented.
  • Presentation on the Role of the CRCPD in the National Materials Program given at the 53rd National Conference on Radiation Control (CRCPD annual meeting) on May 19, 2021

Monthly Meetings

Champions' Chat

The NMP Champions regularly host an open forum for NMP community members to discuss ideas and recommendations to enhance the NRC-Agreement State regulatory partnership. These meetings are not posted online.

The Champions welcome topics for future chats. Please contact David.Matos@dnr.ga.gov and Sherrie.Flaherty@nrc.gov with your suggestions.

Government-to-Government Meetings

The NRC regularly hosts Government-to-Government meetings to inform the NMP community about updates made to guidance documents, current technical challenges, and other knowledge management activities. The Agreement States are also encouraged to submit and lead discussions on topics of interest to the NMP. Please contact Sherrie.Flaherty@nrc.gov to propose any future topics. These meetings are not posted online. Please contact Huda.Akhavannik@nrc.gov to receive future meeting invites for these events.

As active partners in the National Materials Program (NMP), Agreement States are encouraged to take the lead in hosting their own Government-to-Government meetings. These meetings offer a valuable opportunity to highlight state-specific initiatives, share best practices, and collaborate on emerging technical or regulatory issues. To support your efforts, a planning guide is available to help you organize and facilitate these sessions effectively at  ML25240B611. By hosting these meetings, Agreement States can strengthen peer-to-peer engagement and contribute to a more connected and informed NMP community.

Annual Report

The NMP Champions provide a report on the NMP to the NRC and Agreement States on an annual basis. The report will address, at a minimum, the NMP activities that are monitored and tracked, NMP quality measures, and NMP annual goals and priorities. The report is normally presented at the OAS annual meeting and has been given at the 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 annual meetings.
