Randall Owen Gauntt

Randall O. Gauntt, Ph.D., Severe Accident Analysis Department, Sandia National Laboratories

Dr. Gauntt has over 31 years of experience in reactor safety research, ranging from experimental investigations into reactor melt-down behavior to development of mathematical models reflecting these extreme phenomena. He heads the Severe Accident Analysis Department at Sandia who were called into action following the accidents at the Fukushima Daiichi reactors.

Since the accidents he has led a the multi-lab reconstruction study of the Fukushima Dai-ichi accident, co-sponsored by the NRC and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).  This was one of the first comprehensive analyses of the accidents to be completed and addressed many areas of multiple interpretations. 

Dr. Gauntt has a B.S., M.S., and Ph. D. in Nuclear Engineering from Texas A&M University.
