Lawrence Kokajko

Mr. Kokajko joined the NRC in 1989 as a Project Engineer. Later, after serving in Project Manager and Senior Project Manager positions in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, he transferred to the Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards (NMSS) in 1995 as a Senior Project Manager in the Spent Fuel Project Office. He subsequently undertook successive Section Chief assignments in NMSS, including Chief of the Risk Task Group. In 2003, he was selected as Chief, Environmental and Performance Branch, Division of Waste Management, NMSS. In 2004, he was selected as Deputy Director, Division of High-Level Waste Repository Safety, NMSS. In 2006 he was appointed to his current position as Director, Division of High-Level Waste Repository Safety, NMSS. Prior to joining the NRC, Mr. Kokajko worked in the commercial nuclear power industry at TVA’s Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant; Memphis State University, and; Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Corporation, where he obtained a senior reactor operator license. At Quadrex Energy Services Corporation Mr. Kokajko was a Senior Supervisory Service Engineer. Mr. Kokajko graduated from Memphis State University (TN) in 1977 with a BS in Psychology/Biology, obtained an MS in Occupational Education from Keene State College (NH) in 1985, and a BS in Applied Science and Technology (Nuclear) from Thomas A. Edison State College (NJ) in 1988.
