An applicant’s regulatory engagement plan specifies desired meetings, pre-application submittals for review, and the proposed timelines for the project. The NRC highly encourages future applicants to submit REPs and engage in pre-application activities with the NRC staff. These activities are instrumental in helping the NRC understand the project timeline and in planning for effective NRC staff resource allocation.
 
The Nuclear Energy Institutes’ draft guidance document,”Industry Guideline for Development of a Regulatory Engagement Plan,” highlights the importance of these plans. They can be valuable in reaching consensus with NRC staff on licensing approaches, issue resolution, schedule expectations, and other key topics.
