Vogtle Unit 3: Journey from Construction to Operations
Sponsored by the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation
This exhibit will present the progression of Vogtle Electric Generating Plant, Unit 3, from design, licensing, and construction to operations. The presentation will showcase the agency's actions to authorize fuel load at the first AP1000 nuclear plant in the United States. The presentation will highlight the NRC's commitment to its critical safety mission while implementing innovative approaches to first-of-a-kind regulatory challenges. Key takeaways from this presentation include the first completion of the "one-step" licensing process under 10 CFR Part 52, "Licenses, Certifications, and Approvals for Nuclear Power Plants," perspectives from construction inspection, and oversight of the transition from construction to operations. The NRC's success with the Vogtle AP1000s will usher in a new era of safety for small modular and advanced nuclear reactors in the United States.
