The Future of Digital I&C Safety Assurance and Human Performance

The NEA/OECD Halden/HTO is leading a joint project with the NRC and other Halden HTO member organizations' participation to evaluate digital safety systems and move toward performance-based (outcome oriented), technology-neutral, risk-informed approaches. The technological direction of this project promises lowering cost of assurance advancement of the state of assurance practice, leveraging subjective judgement in human performance, and shortening licensing review time. In this exhibit, the Halden team will discuss enabling technologies, utilizing other forms of diversity (e.g., human diversity) different combinations of design, analysis, verification, and validation methods, leveraging accomplishments so far, and challenges ahead.
