This will highlight the NRC’s efforts to develop a SECY paper to explore innovative options for the long-term regulatory treatment and licensing of fusion energy systems. The NRC’s fusion working group has engaged with a broad spectrum of domestic and international stakeholders to better understand the potential risk and consequences of this technology and to obtain their input on the agency’s options. The working group has also implemented future focused research to ensure that the NRC’s computer codes and analytical tools are adequate for fusion.
