Dan Dorman

Daniel H. Dorman was appointed the Executive Director for Operations of the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission in October 2021. This is the highest-ranking career position in the agency, with responsibilities for overseeing the agency’s operational and administrative functions, and serving as the chief operating officer.

He previously served as both Deputy Executive Director for Reactor and Preparedness Programs and Acting Deputy Executive Director for Materials, Waste, Research, State, Tribal, Compliance, Administration and Human Capital Programs in the Office of the Executive Director for Operations.

Mr. Dorman joined the NRC in 1991 as a project engineer in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR). He has served in senior management positions in the Offices of Nuclear Regulatory Research; Nuclear Security and Incident Response; Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards; and Nuclear Reactor Regulation. From 2014 to 2017, Mr. Dorman served as Regional Administrator, Region I.

Prior to joining the NRC, Mr. Dorman served as a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy's nuclear power program with a subspecialty in joint intelligence operations. He received a bachelor's degree in naval architecture and marine engineering from the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture. He received the NRC's Meritorious Service Award in 1998 and the Presidential Rank Meritorious Executive Award in 2008.
