Andrew Averbach

Andrew P. Averbach has served as the NRC’s Solicitor since 2012.  He is also currently serving as Acting Director, Office of Commission Appellate Adjudication.  He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the Boston University School of Law, following which he clerked for the Honorable Joseph A. DiClerico on the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire.  After working in private practice in New York, Mr. Averbach moved to the U.S. Department of Justice, where he worked from 2003-2012 and earned the position of Senior Trial Counsel.  He has previously served as an adjunct faculty member at the George Washington University School of Law, teaching legal writing and Government lawyering.  As Solicitor, he has managed the agency’s docket of Federal court litigation, including the successful defense of its Continued Storage Rule.
