William McCaughey

Mr. McCaughey directs the U.S. Department of Energy's research and development of advanced fuels including accident tolerant fuel for existing U.S. commercial light water reactors and various advanced fuels technologies for future advanced reactors. He has been with the Office of Nuclear Energy for 11 years. Prior to that he managed a variety of technical support service contracts serving the Department's Office of Science and the Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management. He also provided technical support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Mr. McCaughey got his start supporting the operations of the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant in design and licensing, post-Three Mile Island. He has a BS in Nuclear Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Masters in Public Policy from the University of Maryland.
