Martin Murphy

Marty Murphy joined Xcel Energy in February 2013 as the Director, Nuclear Licensing & Regulatory Affairs. Marty has over 32 years in the nuclear industry with a background in power reactor regulation, operations, and maintenance. Prior to Xcel Energy, Marty spent 10 years at the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR), in Rockville, MD.  Marty held a number of positions of increasing responsibility while at the NRC and held a number of Branch Chief positions within NRR; notably Chief of the Mechanical, Civil, Structural branch iin NRR’s Division of Engineering, Chief of NRR’s Engineering Quality and Vendor Inspection Branch and Chief of the Generic Communications & Power Uprate Branch in the Division of Policy and Rulemaking. Prior to these NRC leadership positions, he served as a technical assistant for the NRC’s Operating Reactors project management division and as a technical reviewer in the NRR Materials and Chemical Engineering Branch.

Prior to joining the NRC, Marty worked in Materials Engineering and System Engineering at Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Plant and at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory as a nuclear plant engineer.

Marty is a graduate of Villanova University.
