TH29 Improvements in the Regulatory Licensing Process
The Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR) has taken several steps to improve the timeliness and reliability of the licensing process for reactor licensees. These changes were made in response to licensee feedback that greater reliability in the estimates of how long a license amendment request will take to review as well as the resources needed to complete a review would improve their ability to plan. In response, NRR changed internal procedures for how the staff completes a review and implemented new metrics to track progress. These changes have resulted in improved timeliness and resource estimates. This session will provide attendees with information on these changes to improve their understanding of the current licensing process and provide the results that have been obtained following implementation of these changes.
