United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission - Protecting People and the Environment

T1  Challenges and Future Directions in Nondestructive Examination

Nondestructive examination (NDE) and inservice inspection (ISI) play a vital role in ensuring the safety of nuclear power plant operations. Periodic ISI using effective NDE can detect service degradations in critical components and structures so that appropriate mitigation actions can be taken to avoid component failures. The effective application of NDE can be influenced by the advancements in NDE practices and other factors such as the personnel performing the examination. This session explores perspectives from regulators and nuclear industry representatives on future directions in NDE practices and the influences of human and organizational factors on NDE performance.
