Frederick Brown

Frederick D. Brown is the Assistant for Operations responsible for assisting the Executive Director for Operations (EDO) and Deputy EDOs in the overall planning, management, control, and coordination of the operational and administrative activities of the agency. This responsibility includes providing the day-to-day supervision, guidance, and direction to the Office of the Executive Director for Operations (OEDO) staff responsible for Communications, Performance Management, and the Executive Assistants who are the liaison with the Regions and Technical and Corporate Management Offices. Additionally, Mr. Brown is the agency's Performance Improvement Officer, responsible for supporting the Chief Operating Officer (the EDO) in leading performance improvement efforts across the agency.

Mr. Brown joined the NRC in 1994 as a Reactor Engineer in NRC's Region Ill. He has since held progressively more responsible positions at the NRC, including Fuel Cycle Resident Inspector, Reactor Senior Resident Inspector, and Section Chief positions in High-Level Waste and Industrial and Medical Radiological Safety. Mr. Brown has also served as a Division Director in the offices of New Reactors and Nuclear Reactor Regulation. Mr. Brown served as the Deputy Regional Administrator for Construction in Region II from 2012 through 2015.

Prior to joining the NRC, Mr. Brown spent 12 years as an engineer, supervisor, and manager at Mare Island Naval Shipyard. Mr. Brown holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Merchant Marine Academy, and he is a registered Professional Engineer (Mechanical). Mr. Brown is a graduate of the 2005 NRC Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program.
