United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission - Protecting People and the Environment

T4  International Strategies to Support Ongoing Regulatory Activities and Emerging Nuclear Safety and Security Issues

While the international nuclear community often focuses on new construction and design, operating nuclear power plants around the world are aging, bringing a unique set of challenges to regulators worldwide.  Many regulatory bodies are facing issues related to the oversight of nuclear power plants that are reaching or exceeding the end of their originally licensed periods of operation.  At the same time, these regulators must also address emergent nuclear safety and security issues. This session will examine national and multinational strategies for regulating aging plants while still addressing emerging issues.
