Steven P. Smith

Steven Smith is a Senior Construction Inspector in the Civil Inspection Branch in the NRC’s Region II Division of Construction Inspection.  He is responsible for program development, planning and inspection at the new reactor sites as well as Watts Bar Unit 2 and various fuel facilities.

Since joining the NRC in 2010, he has participated in a wide range of inspection activities, including vendor inspections, in support of new reactor construction.  In addition to his inspection activities, Mr. Smith has also supported the development of the infrastructure and tools used by the Region II inspectors in the planning and inspection process.

Prior to joining the NRC, Mr. Smith started his career in the civil engineering design field and soon transferred into heavy civil construction.  During his time in construction, Mr. Smith served as the Quality Assurance/Quality Control manager for several large commercial construction projects where he was responsible for the development and implementation of the project quality assurance programs.  Mr. Smith received a Bachelor’s and a Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering from the University of Louisville’s J.B. Speed School of Engineering, and is a licensed engineer in the State of Georgia.
