Petteri Tiippana

Mr. Tiippana was born in Joensuu, Finland, on 11th July, 1972. He completed his studies of power plant engineering with a Master of Science degree at Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) in 1997.

Mr. Tiippana joined the Finnish Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority in May 1996 and has had various positions at STUK during his career. In August 2013 he was appointed as the Director General of STUK - Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority, for a three year period starting 1 September 2013. Before that Mr. Tiippana was the Director of the Nuclear Reactor Regulation and between May 2003 and September 2009 he worked as STUK’s Project Manager for Olkiluoto 3 regulatory oversight project.

His career history includes active participation in the work of the OECD/NEA, the IAEA and EU. He is the chair of Multinational Design Evaluation Programme (MDEP) Policy Group and vice-chair of the Committee on Nuclear Regulatory Activities (CNRA) of the OECD/NEA. Further Mr. Tiippana is a member of the ENSREG, WENRA and, WWER Forum (Forum of the State Nuclear Safety Authorities of the Countries Operating WWER Type Reactors).
