Jacques Repussard

Director General of the Institut de Radioprotection et de Sûreté Nucléaire (IRSN)

In 1973, he began his career at the Ministry of Industry where he worked successively as an engineer in the Department of Metrology, assistant to the Department Head and then Department Head of the quality of industrial products and Permanent Delegate to standardization.

From 1986 to 1991, he was Deputy Director General of the French Association for Standardization (AFNOR), and then he implements the reform of the strategic planning process of norms and he is one of the key players in the creation of the Association French Quality Assurance (AFAQ), where he became Vice President.

In 1991, he joined Brussels and became the Head of the European Committee for Standardization, he designs and implements reforms and means to enable the production of thousands of European harmonized norms required when implementing the internal market of the European Union (EU), and he develops the access of Eastern European countries in the standardization process of the EU.

In September 1997, he was appointed Deputy Director General of the National Institute for Industrial Environment and Risks (INERIS). Responsible especially of its strategic development, he draws up to the government the report on the future of the Institute (1998), proposes a major reorganization of its structures and working methods, developing an objective contract signed in 2001, and works with the increasing involvement of INERIS in European research programs and in 2002 he set up the European network of environmental metrology (Metropolis).

He joined the IRSN newly established in March 2003 as Director General, appointed by decree of the President of the Republic.

He is also currently president of ETSON, the European TSO network, and chairman of MELODI, the European association for research on the effects of low dose ionizing radiation.
