Brian McDermott

Brian McDermott is Deputy Director, Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response (NSIR).

Mr. McDermott joined the NRC in 1990 as a Reactor Engineer intern. After graduating from the intern program, he served in Region I as a Reactor Engineer, Resident Inspector at Susquehanna, and Senior Resident Inspector at Vermont Yankee. From 2002 to 2007, Mr. McDermott served in three Region I Branch Chief assignments. In 2007, Mr. McDermott was selected to the SES program and held a number of senior management positions in NSIR, including Deputy Director, Division of Preparedness and Response (DPR) and Director of DPR. He was also Director of the Division of Materials Safety and State Agreements in the Office of Federal and State Materials and Environmental Management Programs (FSME). In October 2013, he received the appointment to his current position as Deputy Director, Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response. Mr. McDermott received a Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Business Administration from Franklin College.
