Jan van der Lee
Jan van der Lee is Director of the international Materials Ageing Institute (MAI), located close to Moret sur Loing, France. The MAI is an organization of scientific collaboration among the world’s largest nuclear utilities and related industries, was established in 2008. He joined EDF at his current position in 2009 as the first Director of the institute.
Jan van der Lee furthermore collaborates in several international initiatives which focus on safe long-term operation of nuclear power plants, is member of the Bureau of SFANS (French branch of the American Nuclear Society) and of the SFC (French Society for Chemistry, Physical Chemistry Division). He is furthermore member of the Paul Scherrer Institute’s Scientific Committee.
Prior to his current position he was Associate Professor at Mines-ParisTech. Trained in applied mathematics and coupled modelling of hydrodynamic flow and chemistry, he created the Reactive Hydrodynamics Group at Mines-ParisTech with applications in leaching, material corrosion and degradation, performance assessment of radioactive waste storage disposals, purification of nuclear circuits, thermodynamics and power plant chemistry. He received his M.S. degree from the Amsterdam University in 1989 and subsequently his Ph.D. from Mines-ParisTech.
