Frank M. Akstulewicz

Mr. Francis M. Akstulewicz is the Deputy Director for Licensing Operations, Division of New Reactor Licensing, Office of New Reactors. The Division of New Reactor Licensing leads and manages design certification application reviews, early site permit application reviews, combined license application reviews, and new reactor pre-application activities. The Division develops and maintains the necessary technical and programmatic support for new reactor licensing activities; is the primary contact organization with stakeholders on issues pertaining to new reactors, large-scale project management tools, schedule and resource planning and tracking, and issues design certifications, early site permits and combined licenses.

Mr. Akstulewicz joined the NRC in 1976 and has held a number of progressively more responsible positions in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, including Reactor Systems Engineer; Project Manager; Technical Assistant to the Office Director; Chief, License Renewal Project Management Section; Chief, PWR Systems and BWR Systems in the Reactor Systems Branch; and Chief, Nuclear Performance and Code Review Branch. In December 2006, Mr. Akstulewicz was appointed as the Technical Assistant for Reactors to Commissioner Jeffrey Merrifield. Prior to accepting the position as the Deputy Director for Licensing Operations, he served as the Deputy Director for Safety Systems and Risk Assessment in the Office of New Reactors.

Mr. Akstulewicz received a B.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University.
