Gustavo Caruso

Electrical Engineer and post graduated in Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection in Argentina.

He joined the Nuclear Regulatory Authority of Argentina 30 years ago, worked in a variety of positions in safety assessment, regulatory inspections of nuclear installations and licensing of Nuclear Power Plants, Executive Manager of Reactor Regulation Department at the Regulatory Body, member of several regulatory forums, nuclear safety committees and consultant in several topics for safety and regulation of nuclear installations.

Mr. Caruso was appointed as Section Head of the Regulatory Activities of the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), in September 2005 and his duties were the Integrated Regulatory Review Service – IRRS IAEA Programme, the Convention on Nuclear Safety, Nuclear Installations Regulation, Strengthening Regulatory Framework of Member States and Safety Infrastructure for countries embarking on Nuclear Power.

The Director General of the IAEA designated Mr. Caruso as Special Coordinator of the Nuclear Safety Action Team (NSAT), as of September 2011. NSAT is responsible for overseeing the prompt implementation of the IAEA Action Plan on Nuclear Safety and to ensure proper coordination among all stakeholders.
