Sunwoo Park

Dr. Sunwoo Park is serving as a Structural Engineer in the NRC Office of New Reactors, Division of Engineering. As a technical reviewer, he conducts structural engineering-related safety evaluations of applications for design certification, combined licenses, and other new reactor pre-application activities. In particular, he is focused on the evaluation of seismic analysis of containment structures including the effect of soil-structure interaction and seismic wave incoherency. Dr. Park received his Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics from the University of Texas at Austin, and his areas of expertise include solid mechanics, computational mechanics, structural dynamics, earthquake engineering, and geotechnical engineering. He has published more than 40 technical papers in archived journals and conference proceedings. Prior to joining the NRC, Dr. Park worked for the Department of Transportation as a federal contract employee, at the George Institute of Technology School of Mechanical Engineering as a research scientist, and at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a structural and geotechnical engineer.
