Individuals to Receive Advance Notification of Radioactive Material and Nuclear Material Shipments

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations in 10 CFR Parts 37, 71 and 73 require advance notification to Governors or their designees and participating Tribal officials or designees by NRC licensees prior to transportation of certain shipments of radioactive material, nuclear waste and spent fuel. The advance notification covered in Part 37 is for shipment of licensed material in a Category 1 quantity, notification for Part 73 is for spent nuclear fuel shipments, and the notification for Part 71 is for large quantity shipments of radioactive waste (and spent nuclear reactor fuel not covered under Part 73).
