AI Use Case Inventory

Consistent with Executive Order 14179 and Office of Management and Budget guidance, the NRC maintains an inventory of non-classified, non-sensitive, and non-research artificial intelligence use cases, including both current and planned applications. By documenting and sharing this information with internal and external stakeholders, the NRC promotes transparency, strengthens governance, and supports responsible AI adoption. The inventory also helps the agency identify and prioritize AI use cases that advance the NRC’s mission and uphold its Principles of Good Regulation: Independence, Openness, Efficiency, Clarity, and Reliability.

The NRC’s AI Use Case Inventory highlights current and planned applications of generative artificial intelligence that support the agency’s mission. These use cases demonstrate how AI tools are being used to assist NRC staff in carrying out their regulatory responsibilities more efficiently, consistently, and transparently. AI is not used as a substitute for professional judgment or legal interpretation. Rather, it serves as a support tool that enhances staff capabilities and informed decision-making. Collectively, these use cases align with the NRC AI Strategic Plan by enhancing decision-making, increasing efficiency, strengthening regulatory oversight, fostering innovation, and supporting public confidence in the NRC.
