The School of Industrial Engineering of the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (ETSII-UPM), in cooperation with the Spanish Nuclear Safety Council, has developed a standardised methodology to couple and parallelise scientific codes, by means of the modular general purpose simulation language BABIECA and the Message Passing Paradigm, currently using the PVM library routines. A template suggests how a code must be written to ease the connectivity with other codes through BABIECA.

The connection scheme has been successfully applied to the RELAP5/MOD3.2 code.
