John Weidner

COL John Weidner has served as the Director of the U.S. Army Nuclear and Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Agency (USANCA) since June 2018.  Among other things, USANCA oversees the Army Reactor Program.

COL Weidner has more than 28 years of active service as an Army officer.  Notable recent assignments include assistant professor in the Department of Physics and Nuclear Engineering at West Point, New York; nuclear weapon stockpile associate at Los Alamos National Laboratory; research professor in the Department of Engineering Physics at the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio; Executive Director for the Office of Major Modernization Programs, National Nuclear Security Administration, Department of Energy; Director for Strategic Capabilities Policy in the Defense Policy and Strategy Directorate on the National Security Council; and Director of the Commander's Action Group for U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base, Ohio.

COL Weidner holds a Ph.D. in medical physics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  He also earned master’s degrees in medical physics, nuclear engineering, engineering management and strategic studies, and has a bachelor’s degree in applied physics.  COL Weidner is a registered professional engineer in the state of Wisconsin.
