Darrell Roberts

Mr. Roberts joined the NRC in July 1989 and assumed his current position as Regional Administrator (RA), Region III, in December 2018.  Before his current position, Mr. Roberts was the Deputy RA in Region III from January 2014 until December 2018.

Mr. Roberts began his NRC career in 1989 as a Reactor Engineer Intern in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR).  After graduation from the intern program, he served as a Reactor Engineer in the Division of Reactor Projects, Region II; Resident Inspector at Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Station in North Carolina; and Senior Resident Inspector at Catawba Nuclear Station in South Carolina.  In 2002, Mr. Roberts returned to NRR where he served in several positions of increasing responsibility including Technical Assistant to the Office Director, and Chief, Plant Licensing Branch B in the Division of Operating Reactor Licensing.  In 2007, he served as Chief, Operator Licensing and Human Performance Branch in the Division of Construction Inspection Programs in the Office of New Reactors.  Later in 2007, he was appointed to the position of Deputy Director, Division of Reactor Safety (DRS), Region I; and in 2009, promoted to the position of DRS Division Director.  Mr. Roberts was appointed to the DRP Division Director in January 2011, where he served until relocating to Region III in January 2014.

Mr. Roberts graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, and from Johns Hopkins University with an M.S. degree in Technical Management.  He co-oped at North Anna Power Station from 1986-1988.
