Shawn Gibby
Shawn Gibby serves as the Vice-President Nuclear Engineering in Duke Energy Corporate. He is responsible for corporate and site engineering for Duke Energy's fleet of nuclear reactors, including reactor core design, nuclear safety analysis, nuclear fuel management and procurement, systems engineering, design engineering, and engineering technical programs. Duke Energy operates 11 nuclear reactors at six nuclear sites in the Carolinas.
Gibby has more than 34 years of experience in the nuclear energy field. Gibby started his career at the Department of Energy Savannah River Site.
He joined Duke in 1990 in the nuclear corporate fuels engineering group where he performed various roles in nuclear reload design and managed the nuclear fuel mechanical and thermal-hydraulics section. In 2009, Gibby moved to Catawba Nuclear Station where he served as reactor engineering manager, rapid response engineering manager, reactor and electrical systems engineering director and design engineering director. In 2016, Gibby transitioned to McGuire Nuclear Station as the site Maintenance Manager. He returned to Catawba as the station's Engineering General Manager in 2020 where he was responsible for all aspects of plant engineering, design engineering and configuration management.
Gibby is a registered professional engineer in North and South Carolina. He earned his senior reactor operator certification in 2010. He completed the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations' (INPO) Senior Nuclear Plant Management course in 2018.
