Due to a lapse in appropriations, the NRC has ceased normal operations. However, excepted and exempted activities necessary to maintain critical health and safety functions—as well as essential progress on designated critical activities, including those specified in Executive Order 14300—will continue, consistent with the OMB-Approved NRC Lapse Plan.

Sarah Eaton

Sarah Jane Eaton is the Director General of Directorate of Advanced Reactor Technologies at the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC). She began her CNSC career in 2009 in Saskatoon, starting as an Inspector for uranium mines and mills then moving to conducting inspections of fuel cycle facilities. In April 2021, Sarah was appointed the Director of Advanced Reactor Licensing in the Directorate of Advanced Reactor Technologies and in November 2023 Sarah became the Director General. The Directorate of Advanced Reactor Technologies is responsible for licensing new nuclear reactors, pre-licensing activities including the Vendor Design Review and leading CNSC's approach ensuring a coordinated matrix approach to organizational readiness for regulating SMRs and new advanced technologies.
