Michael Mazaika

Michael Mazaika is a meteorologist with the NRC for over 14 years. He is a member of the External Hazards Branch (EXHB) in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR) where he conducts safety and environmental-related climatological and meteorological monitoring reviews.  This includes accident and routine release atmospheric dispersion evaluations for new reactor design certifications, site-specific reactor deployments, and license amendment requests.

Before joining the NRC, Mr. Mazaika worked nearly 30 years for two engineering, procurement, and construction firms, supporting both domestic and international facilities for manufacturing and for nuclear and fossil power generation. Mr. Mazaika began his career participating in field research for the State of Maryland Power Plant Siting Program, and for the U.S. EPA and private industry, dealing with the characterization of actual plume dispersion in the environment.
