Maria Avramova

Dr. Avramova is Professor of Nuclear Engineering and University Faculty Scholar at North Carolina State University (NCSU). She is a founder and director of the NCSU Consortium for Nuclear Power, and a founder and coordinator of the international user group of the NCSU advanced nuclear thermal-hydraulic code CTF.

Dr. Avramova holds B.S./Diploma in Engineering Physics from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Sofia, Bulgaria; and M.S. and Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University, State College, PA, USA.

Dr. Avramova has led several high visibility international programs supported by the Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (NEA OECD), the International Atomic Energy Agency, the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and the US Department Of Energy. Currently, she is a co-chair of the NEA OECD Expert Group on Core Thermal-Hydraulics and Mechanics under the Working Party on Scientific Issues and Uncertainty Analysis of Reactor Systems of the Nuclear Science Committee.
