Johnathan Chavers

Johnathan D. Chavers is the Director of Nuclear Fuel and Analysis for Southern Nuclear. In this role, he is responsible for nuclear fuel and safety analysis for the Southern Nuclear fleet of generating plants. Johnathan joined Southern Nuclear in May 2004 at Plant Hatch in reactor systems engineering. Johnathan transitioned to the Southern Nuclear Fleet Headquarters in 2009.

The Southern Nuclear Fuel and Analysis Department is recognized as a leader with Accident Tolerant Fuel (ATF) technologies and has established itself as one of the top nuclear engineering organizations within commercial nuclear power. Johnathan leads the team that installed the first ATF into a commercial reactor at Plant Hatch in 2018. The Southern Nuclear Fuel and Analysis team has been recognized with five Nuclear Energy Institute Top Innovative Practice awards since 2018, including two related to ATF technologies.

Johnathan represents Southern Nuclear on the Department of Energy Industry Advisory Board for the Advanced Fuels Campaign. He also serves as the utility lead for the Nuclear Energy Institute's Accident Tolerant Fuel Working Group's Licensing and Safety Benefits Task Force

Johnathan holds a Bachelor of Science in nuclear engineering from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Business Administration from Samford University.
