Dewey Samuel Roberts

Dewey Samuel Roberts II (Sammy) is currently the General Manager – Transmission Planning and Operations Strategy at Duke Energy and is responsible for providing strategic direction for Transmission Planning and Operations to enable a reliable transition to cleaner energy resources for Duke Energy.  Prior to his current position, Sammy held various management and engineering positions in System Planning and Operations and Nuclear Engineering at Duke Energy, Progress Energy Carolinas and Carolina Power & Light Company. Sammy has 30 years of Nuclear Plant Engineering and System Operations experience.

Sammy holds Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, and Master of Business Administration degrees, all from North Carolina State University.

Sammy is a Licensed Professional Engineer in North Carolina, a Member of IEEE, and holds a NERC Certified System Operator Certificate at the Reliability Coordinator level.  Sammy is the past Chairperson for the SERC Operating Committee and Operating Committee representative on the SERC Reliability Risk Working Group.

Sammy has provided presentations on solar integration to Commissions, the North American Transmission Forum, SERC, and at IEEE conferences.
