Abstract

This document is a supplemental safety evaluation report (SSER) for the license renewal application (LRA) for Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant (PINGP), Units 1 and 2, as submitted by Nuclear Management Company (NMC), LLC. By letter dated April 11, 2008, NMC submitted its LRA to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for renewal of the PINGP operating licenses for an additional 20 years. The NRC staff (the staff) issued a Safety Evaluation Report (SER) Related to the License Renewal of Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant Units 1 and 2, dated October 16, 2009 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System [ADAMS] accession No. ML092890209), which summarizes the results of its review of the LRA for compliance with the requirements of Title 10, Part 54, of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR Part 54), “Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants.”

This SSER documents the staff’s review of supplemental information provided by the applicant since the issuance of the SER. This information includes annual updates required by 10 CFR 54.21(b), and updated information and commitments in response to recent industry operating experience. The staff informed its evaluation of the applicant’s submittals using NUREG-1801, Revision 2, “Generic Aging Lessons Learned (GALL) Report,” dated December 2010, which had incorporated this recent industry operating experience.
