The Chairman of the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Dr. Dale E. Klein, will be available Friday, Feb. 1, to meet with Raleigh news media representatives at 1:00 p.m. (EST) at the state Museum of Natural History, located at 5 E. Edenton St., between Salisbury and Wilmington Streets. The event will be held in the Demonstration Room on the lobby level of the museum. Chairman Klein today is visiting the North Carolina State University research and test reactor facilities where he is scheduled to address students and speak at a meeting of the local chapter of the American Nuclear Society. Prior to Friday’s media availability, he will tour Progress Energy’s Shearon Harris nuclear power plant southwest of Raleigh. The chairman will be prepared to discuss current fire safety issues and arrival at the NRC of the first applications for new reactors, along with other current issues of interest to area reporters. Media representatives who wish to attend are asked to try to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled starting time to allow for setup of electronic or other equipment. |
