Discussion:

As documented in Preliminary Notification PNO-II-05-004, Morning Report 2-2005-0009, and Event Notification EN 41895, Brunswick Units 1 and 2 were shutdown on August 6, 2005, due to a potential common cause degraded condition of all four emergency diesel generators (EDGs). Region II initiated a Special Inspection Team on August 9 to assess the circumstances surrounding the inoperability of the EDGs. The Special Inspection Team completed its onsite review on August 12, 2005.

As previously reported, Unit 2 remained shutdown for other, unrelated outage work. With outage work complete, Unit 2 startup commenced at 2337, August 11, and the reactor went critical at 0357, August 12. The resident inspectors are monitoring Unit 2's continued startup and power ascension.
