NRC–RES/EPRI 2019 Fire PRA Workshop
On this page:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research (RES), in cooperation with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), working under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Cooperative Nuclear Safety Research, will sponsor workshops related to the development of fire probabilistic risk assessments (PRAs). Training will cover the methodology presented in "EPRI/NRC-RES Fire PRA Methodology for Nuclear Power Facilities" (NUREG/CR-6850/EPRI 1011989), follow on publications, and will also include discussions relating to the fire PRA portion of the ASME/ANS PRA Standard.
Five separate modules cover the major technical areas of the fire PRA methodology. This year each module will be offered once at the NRC or NIST offices; participants may attend as many modules as they wish. Since there are two host locations, please note the date, location, and be sure to read the course descriptions prior to registering. A description of each module is provided below the course contact information. All modules will take place in the greater Washington, DC area.
This is a free public workshop with Modules II (Electrical Analysis), III (Fire Analysis), & V (Advanced Fire Modeling) jointly sponsored by NRC-RES and EPRI. Modules I (PRA) & IV (Fire HRA) will be sponsored by NRC-RES only. NRC staff are required to request approval for attendance through iLearn then register using the corresponding registration link below. Complete descriptions of each module and a link to the course website and registration are provided in the links within the table below.

♦EPRI offers other training courses and opportunities such as Fundamentals of Fire PRA, Education of Risk Professionals, and HRA Fundamentals which address many of the concepts presented in Modules I and IV.
++Module V will be held on the NIST Campus in Gaithersburg, MD this year. Attendees will have an opportunity to tour the National Fire Research Laboratory (NFRL). Please see National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) website to read information about the laboratory.
