On January 16, 2017, our nation will honor the legacy and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., one of America's most distinguished advocates of nonviolent activism in the civil rights movement. We celebrate the long arc of progress for which Dr. King and so many other leaders fought and acknowledge the continued work that falls to us to attain the goals he espoused. As citizens of this great country, we fulfill his vision of a nation devoted to rejecting bigotry in all its forms; to rise above cynicism and the belief that we cannot change; and to cherish dignity and opportunity for all the children in all our communities.

As we come together on this day of service to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King, let us recognize the common humanity of all people, regardless of the color of their skin or the station into which they were born.

Chairman Stephen G. Burns
