Office of Small Business and Civil Rights

The Office of Small Business and Civil Rights supports the NRC mission in protecting people and the environment by enabling the agency to advance equal employment opportunities for employees and applicants, to provide fair and impartial processing of discrimination complaints, to afford maximum practicable prime and subcontracting opportunities for small businesses, and to allow for meaningful and equal access to agency-conducted and financially-assisted programs and activities.

Office of Congressional Affairs

The Office of Congressional Affairs (OCA) reports directly to the Office of the Chairman and is responsible for ensuring that the NRC meets its statutory responsibility to keep the appropriate Congressional oversight committees fully and currently informed about the NRC's activities. 

Office of Commission Appellate Adjudication

The Office of Commission Appellate Adjudication (OCAA) is responsible for assisting the Commission in the exercise of its quasi-judicial functions, including the resolution of appeals from decisions of the Atomic Safety and Licensing Boards. OCAA is responsible for providing the Commission analysis of adjudicatory matters requiring a Commission decision (e.g., appeals, petitions for review of initial licensing board decisions, certified questions, referred rulings, stay requests).

Office of the Chief Human Capital Officer

Provides overall leadership and management of agency human capital planning and human resources (HR) planning, policy, and program development. Leads in the development of the agency's strategic human capital plan. Develops and implements the HR strategic plan, performance plan, and operating plan consistent with agency-wide programmatic goals and objectives. Assists and advises NRC management in the planning and implementation of human capital goals consistent with agency policies and mission.

Office of the Chief Information Officer

The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) is responsible for delivering,  operating, securing, and governing the agency’s information technology (IT), information management (IM), and digital capabilities. OCIO enables mission and mission-support 
operations by providing reliable enterprise technology services, modern digital solutions, effective data and information lifecycle management, strong cybersecurity and privacy protections, and disciplined technology strategy and governance.

Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation

The Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR) is responsible for accomplishing key components of the NRC's nuclear reactor safety mission.  NRR conducts a broad range of regulatory activities in support of the Commission's safety and security strategic goals.  These activities encompass licensing, security, and incident response for operating commercial nuclear power reactors and non-power production and utilization facilities.  NRR collaborates with other headquarters and regional offices to accomplish the NRC mission. 

Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research

The Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research provides leadership and direction for the NRC’s regulatory research program, planning and managing analytical, experimental, and operational research that strengthens the technical basis for risk-informed, performance-based regulation.

Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards

The Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards (NMSS) enables the safe and secure use of nuclear technologies that can be used commercially in the United States through licensing and inspection activities that enable for the safe and secure production of nuclear fuel used in commercial nuclear reactors; reprocessing, the safe storage, transportation and disposal of low and high-level radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel; and the transportation of radioactive materials regulated under the Atomic Energy Act.

Office of the Chief Financial Officer

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for the NRC's financial management activities as well as agency-wide internal controls. The CFO establishes budgeting and financial management policy for the agency and provides advice to the Chairman and the Commission on these matters.

Office of the Secretary

Provides executive management services to support the Commission and to implement Commission decisions.  This includes the planning and scheduling of Commission business by preparing the Commission's meeting agenda and managing the Commission's decision-making process; codifying Commission decisions in memoranda directing staff actions; monitoring staff compliance of pending issues and commitments; processing and control of Commission correspondence; maintaining the Commission's historical records collection; and administration of the NRC historical program.
