Project Overview
The staff of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is currently conducting a detailed technical review of the Carbon Free Power Project, LLC (CFPP) application for a Limited Work Authorization (LWA). CFPP has filed an application with the NRC for an LWA to begin certain construction activities that would otherwise require a combined license. CFPP plans to submit a combined license application to the NRC in January 2024 to construct and operate a 6-module nuclear power plant of NuScale US460 VOYGR design to be located at the Department of Energy’s Idaho National Laboratory, Idaho Falls, Idaho.
For additional detail, see the CFPP LWA application.

Project Status
The NRC accepted and docketed CFPP’s LWA application on August XX, 2023 and issued an acceptance letter. The CFPP LWA application review status is displayed in the dashboard below. Specifically, the dashboard contains the high-level tasks, review plan, and the staff’s review progress. It allows the user to use various filters and visualizations in the Microsoft® Power BI® software platform to investigate the overall trends regarding:
- Overall project status
- Current and next stage status
- Requests for Additional Information (RAI) status
- Project timeline information
As the review progresses, the dashboard will be updated to reflect new information.
In addition to the LWA application, CFPP submitted an application for an exemption request. The status of this request is displayed in the dashboard below and contains the same high-level information as the CFPP LWA Status Dashboard above.
