Advanced Evacuation Simulations and Application to Emergency Preparedness

Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response and the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research
The NRC, utilizing state-of-the-art microsimulation traffic analysis tools, is conducting an applied research study to examine topics associated with the modeling and simulation of evacuations near nuclear power plants. This research will be used to update regulatory guidance for evacuation time estimate studies and has application to modeling emergency preparedness with the MELCOR Accident Consequence Code System (MACCS) and for enhancing protective action strategies.
