Steven West

Steve West joined the NRC in 1985 and assumed his current position as Regional Administrator on December 11, 2017.

Prior to this appointment, Steve West served as the Acting Director of the Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response (NSIR).  Steve joined the NRC in 1985 as a fire protection engineer in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR).  In 2005, after serving in a number of positions in NRR, he was appointed to the Senior Executive Service (SES) and transferred to Region III where he served as the Director, Division of Reactor Safety (DRS), and then as Director, Division of Reactor Projects.  Mr. West transferred back to NRC headquarters in March 2013 and served as Deputy Director, Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research, and as Deputy Director, NSIR.  During his career, Steve has also acted as Deputy Director, DRS, in Region IV; Deputy Regional Administrator, Region III; and Deputy Director, Office of Federal and State Materials and Environmental Management Programs.  Steve holds a Bachelor of Science degree in fire protection engineering from the University of Maryland and is a graduate of the 2005 NRC SES Candidate Development Program.  He has received both the NRC Meritorious Service Award for Engineering Excellence and the NRC Distinguished Service Award.
