Victor McCree

Victor M. McCree was appointed as the Executive Director for Operations on September 27, 2015.  He is the chief operating officer of the Commission, and is authorized and directed to discharge the operational and administrative functions necessary for the day-to-day operations of the agency.

Mr. McCree joined the NRC in 1988 as an inspector in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation. He held progressively more responsible positions in NRR and later in the offices of the Executive Director for Operations and former NRC Chairman Shirley Ann Jackson.

Assigned to Region II in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1998, Mr. McCree served as the Deputy Director and Director for both the Divisions of Reactor Safety and Reactor Projects, and became the Deputy Regional Administrator for Operations in 2006.  In January 16, 2011, Mr. McCree was appointed Regional Administrator, overseeing a staff of more than 300 employees.  Region II is responsible for regulating 33 operating commercial nuclear power plants in seven southeastern states, as well as all NRC-regulated nuclear fuel cycle facilities in the U.S.  In addition, Region II is responsible for implementing the construction inspection program at all new nuclear power plants and fuel cycle facilities in the nation.

Mr. McCree, a native of Jackson, Miss., graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1981 and holds an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from Georgia State University. Prior to joining the NRC, he was a nuclear qualified submarine officer in the U.S. Navy. He received the Presidential Meritorious Rank Award in 2007.
